Several times a year we welcome Sietze Wijma from ‘The Art of Tasting’ for three master classes on recognizing aromas in red wines, white wines and faults in the wine.

Sietze has a master’s degree in Sensory Science and also gives many tastings at the WSET wine school in London.

We are very happy with this close collaboration. Sietze’s masterclasses are an ideal addition for students preparing for the WSET Level 3 tasting exam, but also very suitable for other wine lovers who would like to learn how to taste better.

What do students say about us?

This has been one of the most constructive and rich learning experiences I could have imagined for a WSET Level 3 provider. The teacher (Wouter) was so helpful in supplementing the standardised and necessary knowledge of the WSET with rich information and context about the world of wine! He was an excellent tutor and instructor in tasting as well, offering us some unique tasting samples and experiences and accompanying as we explore and expand our palate. The environment of the AWA is also very friendly and approachable, an excellent space and place to sit, learn, and taste. I will cherish this learning experience for the years to come and I will miss the AWA and Wouter.
Thank you AWA 🙂

Best choice I’ve made during my time in Amsterdam! I completed WSET level 3 in English and the learning process was fun and highly engaging. Wouter prepared us very well for a challenging and demanding examination and helped us to get rid of the fear of blind tasting. He is an excellent tutor with deep knowledge in wine who goes above and beyond with his teaching methods, from choosing incredible wines to sharing some extra bits of knowledge outside the curriculum to keep us excited about wines. Finally the premises of the academy are impeccable and in very central location in Amsterdam. Strongly recommended!

I followed both WSET2 and 3 at AWA and I will definitely return for any follow-up (e.g. French/Italian wine scholar). Inspiring, fun lessons, very involved guidance and an enormous amount of knowledge. Wouter is extremely passionate and didactically very strong, and the other teachers I have experienced also do well. 11/10.

Last summer I took the WSET2 course. Wouter is an excellent teacher. The lessons were informative and the knowledge I gained is clearly applicable to every wine I pick: from the supermarket to the better restaurants. If you want to know more about wine, the Amsterdam Wine Academy is definitely worth the time and investment.

WSET 2 followed. Very nice for the beginning or slightly advanced wine lover.
Wouter is a born teacher and teaches in a very pleasant way. Very nice! Especially when the sometimes dry subject matter related to winemaking becomes more accessible and sticks.
If you are not convinced or enthusiastic at the beginning, you will become convinced as you go along!

What a good course and excellent guidance by instructors Wouter( and also Linda during a catch-up lesson). I really recommend this course! You gain so much knowledge and learn about grape varieties, wine regions and so much more which makes you discern more nuances and…enjoy wine more!

Took my first wine course (WSET level 2) at the Academy, and was extremely happy with the experience! I am planning to take more courses at the Academy and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about wines, both for personal interest and professional improvement!

What a fun and engaging course! I learned so much through this course and feel confident in my new abilities to identify various wine regions and grape varieties. It was a joy to attend the class and I very much looked forward to each lesson. I am glad I started at Level 1…I am now hooked and looking forward to completing the next levels. Thank you Amsterdam Wine Academy!
