What is WSET Level 2?
The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is an internationally recognized wine course designed for both passionate wine enthusiasts and professionals in the hospitality and wine trade. This course provides a comprehensive overview of different wines, wine regions, and wine styles, helping you to identify and evaluate the style and quality of wines.
At Amsterdam Wine Academy, this course is taught by qualified WSET instructors with extensive experience. We offer more classroom hours than WSET requires, resulting in a high pass rate of 98%.

What is the difference between WSET and SDEN?
In the Netherlands, you can choose between WSET and SDEN when selecting a wine course. Both systems are recognized, but there are some key differences:
WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) is an internationally recognized program used worldwide. It follows a structured methodology that focuses on the objective assessment of wines through a systematic tasting method. This makes WSET popular among professionals and wine enthusiasts with international ambitions.
SDEN (Stichting Dranken Examens en Normering) is a Dutch certification system commonly used by hospitality businesses and wine shops in the Netherlands. SDEN 3 is comparable to WSET Level 2, but the tasting approach and terminology differ.
Your choice between WSET and SDEN depends on your goals. If you want to work internationally or gain a broader perspective on wine, WSET is the best choice.
Preparation and exam
To be well-prepared for the WSET Level 2 exam, we recommend studying approximately two hours per week. All study material is included in the official WSET textbook.
The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, and to pass, you need to answer at least 28 correctly. If you do not pass, you can retake the exam at least twice a year.
